Hartman, Yoder double winners

INDEPENDENCE

Junior Wyatt Hartman and sophomore Solomon Yoder each won two events, and senior Tuan Hoang advanced in three to lead the Maplewood High boys track and field team to the Division III district championship on Friday at Independence High School.

Yoder won the 110-meter high hurdles (16.19 seconds) and 300 intermediate hurdles (40.33). He also led off the Rockets’ winning 4x400 relay that finished in 3:25.73.

Also on the relay were Derek Morrison, Wyatt Hartman and Hoang.

Hoang was second in the 400 (50.60), third in the 100 (11.31) and fourth in the 200 (22.89), qualifying in all three events to next week’s regional at Fairless High School.

Hartman won the 800 in a meet-record time (1:56.98) and the 1600 (4:19.21).

Sophomore Stephen Pop won the discus (160 feet, 5 inches).

Other area boys advancing to the regional were Badger senior Kenny Bolyard, who was second in the discus (160-1), and Mathews sophomore Wyatt Ford, who was second in the high jump (5-10).

Maplewood scored 110 points to outdistance runner-up Cuyahoga Heights (84).

Gilmour won the girls title with 120 points and Trinity was second with 98.5. Badger finished fifth with 49 points and Maplewood was sixth with 44.

Badger sophomore Jennilyn Krumpe won the long jump (16-0.75) and the 400 (57.29) and was third in the 100 (12.78).

Her teammate, sophomore Leah Blaney, was second in the long jump (15-11.25).

Maplewood junior Alanna Shamrock was fourth in the 800 (2:26.50) and 1600 (5:23.08), while junior Erin Pavick was second in the 800 (2:21.49) and sophomore Rebecca Shelton was second in the shot put (34-1.25).

Other area regional qualifiers were Mathews senior Hannah Suttles was third in the long jump (15-11); Bristol freshman Kimberly Michael was third in the 400 (1:02.70 and fourth in the 200 (26.82), and Southington sophomore Autumn Arbogast was fourth in the 400 (1:03.85).
