MINERAL RIDGE

The Weathersfield Board of Education learned from district Treasurer Laurena Rouan that there are no major changes in the district’s five-year forecast.

“Because of big, prudent decisions by the board members and administration, we’ve made incredible strides to be in the position we are in,” Rouan said at this week’s board meeting.

Projections for the district still show no major changes from the October 2011 forecast projections, which continue to show the district in the black at year’s end until 2015, when a deficit of $75,000 is expected. That will increase to a negative $834,444 by fiscal year 2016.

Rouan said the district still spends more than its revenues can support, but the year-end projected balance from October’s projection of $1.627 million will increase to $1.68 million.

The district will be in deficit spending at $95,955.

The district used its American Recovery and Reinvestment Act Ed JOBS money in 2012 for teacher’s salaries and also received an additional disbursement of $29,000 in May.

The tangible personal-property tax reimbursement, which will come later this month, will be $549,000, 90 percent of what the district had been receiving for state foundation money.

Rouan said right now, the district is being told it will continue to receive reimbursements at the same level through 2016.
