Poland to host fall sports meetings
The Poland High School athletic department will host a Fall Sports Parent Meeting May 29 at 7 p.m. in the high school auditorium. The meeting is mandatory for parents whose son or daughter is playing a high school fall sport. All parents should plan to attend, as policies and procedures for the upcoming fall season will be discussed.

Poland seeks volleyball coaches
Poland Seminary High School has coaching openings for girls junior varsity volleyball and eighth-grade volleyball for the 2012-2013 school year.

Golf benefit set for cancer patients
The seventh annual Sunshine Benefit Golf Outing to defray the medical costs of a Boardman couple suffering from cancer will be July 21 at Lakeside Golf Course.
Proceeds will be donated to Carl and Lucy Seidita, the parents of Kimberly, 17, and Carl Jr., 15. Carl is fighting stage-three inoperative pancreatic cancer while Lucy has oral cancer and requires a feeding tube. The 9 a.m. shotgun start at Lakeside is a three-player scramble that costs $225 per team. Deadline to purchase tickets is June 16. ‘Boom Boom’ Mancini biography planned
A biography on Youngstown’s Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini called “The Good Son” is scheduled to be released in September. The book is written by Mark Kriegel, who also wrote bestselling biographies on “Pistol” Pete Maravich and Joe Namath. Mancini, who grew up on the South Side, was the WBA lightweight champion from 1982-84.
