Sulmona Valley Auxiliary sets dinner
The Sulmona Valley Auxiliary is hosting its Mother’s Day dinner on May 22 at 6 p.m. at the Phoenix Fire Grill in Canfield. Members and guests are welcome. Call Arlene DeChellis at 330-726-8019 for reservations.
Dining with Diabetes series set
A three-week Dining with Diabetes series of classes will be held June 6, 13 and 20 from 1 to 4 p.m. at Shepherd of the Valley, 301 W. Western Reserve Road. The program is sponsored by the Ohio State University Extension, Mahoning County and Shepherd of the Valley.
The class is open to diabetics, their family members and caretakers. Those enrolled will be taught how to prepare meals that are healthy, easy to make and delicious. They also will learn up-to-date information on nutrition, meal planning, exercise and how to understand diabetes-related medical tests.
The Extension office reminds the public that diabetes is a serious and costly disease. But research has shown that those who learn to manage blood sugar levels eat healthy and exercise regularly can lower the risk of complications and lead a more productive life.
Recipe books and diabetes brochures will be provided. The cost is $30 and preregistration is required by June 1. Registration can be made by calling the extension office at 330-533-5538.
Prostate Cancer Program set
A free prostate cancer program, “To Screen or Not to Screen” will be held on Tuesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Mr. Anthony’s, 7440 South Ave. Drs. Vince Ricchiuti, Mark Memo, Richard Nord and Paul Musselman will discuss the PSA screening test and if it’s recommended for men 50 or younger. This program will highlight some of the recent media information pertaining to when is the right time for screening.

Tesone named to Dean’s List
Nick Tesone was named to the Dean’s List with a 4.0 GPA at the University of Dayton for both the fall and spring semester. A 2011 graduate of Poland Seminary High School, Tesone is majoring in chemical engineering. He is also a member of the UD marching band, pep band and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia fraternity.
Home furnishing consignment store opens
Re Arrangements, a home furnishing consignment store, had its grand opening May 1 at 15 Stadium Dr. in Boardman. The store officially opened April 1 and specializes in gently-used furniture and home d cor.
The family business is owned by Lexy Milton and Adam Witzeman. The store accepts gently-used furniture and home decor in “like new” condition.
Re Arrangements is open Tuesday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturday/Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. For information, call 330-398-3565.
Poland raffle raises equipment funds
The Poland concert bands and Jazz Ensemble are in need of updated equipment and sound system. To defray the cost, the band is sponsoring raffle fundraiser.
Each band member in grades seven through 12 will sell at least five raffle tickets. The proceeds will be used to purchase updated equipment for the bands.
The cost of each ticket is $20 and will be entered into a weekly drawing. Weekly drawings for $100 will be held, with a $500 drawing on May 16.

Blood drive set
The Poland library will host a blood drive sponsored by the Mahoning Chapter of the American Red Cross on Tuesday from 12 to 6 p.m. The blood drive is a special blood drive for people with Type O.

The Poland library invites children of all ages to decorate an ornament for the all-seasons tree during library hours, through the month of May.
Create a sky craft
The Poland library invites school age children to make art on a string to swing from the sky above the librarians desk. Children create the crafts during library hours, through the month of May.
Pajama Jam set
The Poland library will host Pajama Jam: Sleepy-Time Fun for the Family on Monday from 6:30 to 7 p.m. Put on your pajamas and bring out the whole family for stories and more fun.
Libraries closing notice
All libraries in the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County system will be closed May 27 and 28.

The Poland library will host Baby Brilliant: Bonding with Babies and Books for babies 6-23 months on Wednesday and May 30 at 10 a.m. The program will include developmentally-appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finger plays and other activities that will help children become successful readers. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Baby bargain boutique set
Boardman Park will be hosting its annual Baby Bargain Boutique today from 9 a.m. to noon at Masters Pavilion. Admission is free. The boutique will have usable baby, children and maternity clothing, toys, books, furniture and much more for children under the age of five. Murder Mystery dinner needs suspects
The Myrddin Winery in Lake Milton will host a Murder Mystery dinner May 25 at 7 p.m. and is searching for people to participate in the show.
Anyone interested in being one of the eight murder suspects or 16 sleuths should call 330-654-9181. Especially needed are people to play the murder suspects.
For those attending the dinner, which will benefit The Fifth Sparrow Ministry, cost is $22 per person, due at time of reservations.

Wound Care center relocates
The St. Elizabeth Boardman Wound Care Center has moved to 7010 South Ave., Suite 6 in Boardman. The new office, at the corner of South Avenue and Trailwood Drive, opened this morning and is convenient to Route 224 and Interstate 680, providing easier access for patients than its former DeBartolo Place office.
St. Elizabeth Wound Care Center specializes in providing comprehensive care for chronic, non-healing wounds using the latest treatments and technologies. Treatment is tailored to each patient’s unique needs and requirements, and complements the care provided by the patient’s primary care physician.
The staff consists of physicians who specialize in the treatment of chronic wounds, nurses specially trained to care for patients with these wounds, and experienced technicians.

Eat pasta, support Tyler
A pasta dinner in support of Tyler Branca will be held tomorrow from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church, 7345 Westview Drive. The cost is $9 for adults and $6 for children 10 and under. Dinner includes pasta, meatballs, salad, roll, dessert, coffee, tea and orange drink. Pasta, sauce and meatballs are donated by Cafe Capri.
Branca is a 21-year-old college student who was recently diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Monetary donations are also accepted at any First National Bank — just ask for the Tyler Branca Fund.
Italian Fest to be in August
The Greater Youngstown Italian Fest will be held on Aug. 3-5 in downtown Youngstown. The festival is now accepting applications for the Italian Man and Woman of the Year. Applications for scholarships are also available. Applicants must be attending Youngstown State University in order to be eligible for these scholarships. Deadline for applications is June 1.
