In the tale, a man complains of a noisy, creaky house, until a wise man tells the homeowner to bring a owl, wolf, bat, and cricket home. After the noisy new additions are taken away, the man finds that the sounds that usually irked him were not as bothersome anymore.

Lynn Kirk Elementary students got a taste of Summer Reading May 10 from officials from the Austintown library. Librarian Nikki Puhalla visited the school to tell the students about the fun events and prizes they can earn by participating in the library’s Summer Reading Program.

“Everything that you are interested in, there is a book in the library for you to learn more about it. It’s good to continue to grow and develop your literacy skills even when you’re not in school, so you can be ready for your next year to start,” the librarian said.

Puhalla gave the students a taste of some of the stories they will be hearing in the months ahead by sharing a tale called “Too Much Noise.”

In the story, a man named Peter cannot sleep due to the leaky faucet and creaky floors in his home and asks for advice from a local wise man. The wise man suggests bringing noisy animals into the house, which the Lynn Kirk students helped to act out during the tale, and Peter complains of even more noise in the house. Soon, Peter finds that after he kicks out the animals, the sounds that annoyed him before are no longer bothersome.

Puhalla said the tale followed the library’s summer program theme of “Dream Big: Read!”

“There will be lots of fun happening at the library this summer. Our story times will explore the night sky, camping in the library, exploring ooey-gooey substances and we’ll be welcoming very large Madcap Puppets for another show this year. It will be a great season,” Puhalla promised.
