Community garden needs participants

SHARON, PA.

Penn State Shenango is starting a community garden and welcomes participation from adults who want to develop their green thumbs.

Those who work in the garden will share in the bounty at harvest time.

Part of the produce will be donated to the Community Food Warehouse of Mercer County.

The first project was May 15, when participants built two traditional raised beds and two experimental garden beds.

At 6 p.m. June 5, Master Gardener LeeAnn Suso will discuss companion planting. Afterward, the group will begin planting.

Participants are encouraged to take their own gardening gloves and small tools. The group will meet in the student parking lot across from the athletic field on Vine Avenue before each event. The garden is on Vine Avenue between Silver and Franklin Streets.

For information call Tony Paglia at 724-983-2841 or visit the community garden’s Facebook page.
