ALLIANCES

Ohio Cultural Alliance will have a dinner meeting at 6 p.m. June 4 at Holy Trinity Serbian Church Hall, 54 Laird Ave., Youngstown. William Lawson, executive director of the Mahoning Valley Historical Society, will discuss John Young, for whom the city was named. The Youngstown Connection, singers and dancers from Youngstown City Schools, will entertain, and the ladies guild of the church will provide an ethnic meal. Membership fees continue at $25 per person; meetings cost $15 per paid-up member and $20 for each nonmember. Reservations should be mailed to OCA, P.O. Box 561, Canfield, OH 44406, by May 29. Those attending are asked to take nonperishable food items for the Gleaners Food Bank.

ASSOCIATIONS

William Penn Association Branch 28 of Youngstown will meet at 2 p.m. Sunday in the community room at Assumption Nursing Home. Meeting topics will be the upcoming golf outing, bus trip and social events.

AUXILIARIES

Sulmona Valley Auxiliary will have a Mother’s Day dinner at 6 p.m. Tuesday at The Phoenix Fire Grill, 5231 S. Canfield Road, Canfield. Guests are welcome; the telephone committee will take reservations. Arlene DeChellis and Patty Bozichovich are chairwomen.

Girard High School Athletic Boosters will meet at 8 p.m. Wednesday at the high school cafeteria.

Columbiana and Mahoning County Beekeepers Association will meet Sunday at Chuck Hatch’s residence, 39729 Miller Road, Leetonia. A potluck lunch at 1 p.m. will precede the meeting at 2. Members are asked to take their own chair.

Lake Milton Historical Society will meet at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Lake Milton American Legion. A short meeting will precede guest speaker Cary Wells, owner of the former Craig Beach Amusement Park Administration Building.

Mahoning County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society will have a regular monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Monday at St. Charles Church Ministry Building, 7325 Westview Drive, Boardman. Loretta Ekoniak and Susan Summers will speak about Slovaks of the Greater Mahoning Valley. The computer interest group will meet at 6 p.m.

SUPPORT GROUPS

Breast Cancer Support Group will meet at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Eat’n Park Restaurant in Austintown.

Mended Hearts, Chapter 7, a support group for heart-disease survivors and their families, will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday in the Azalea Room at St. Elizabeth Health Center, Boardman Campus. Nar-Anon, a 12-step program for relatives and friends who have been adversely affected by a loved one’s addiction to drugs, meets at 7 p.m. Fridays at the Neil Kennedy Recovery Clinic, 160 Clifton NE, Howland; newcomers are welcome at 6:45. For information call 330-856-3822.

Nar-Anon Family Group, which helps those who are adversely affected by a relative or friend who has an addiction, will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Neil Kennedy Recovery Clinic, 5211 Mahoning Ave., Suite 3000, Austintown. The 12-step program offers help by sharing experience, strength and hope. Newcomers are welcome at 6:45.

Parents and families of estranged adult children are organizing a support group. A meeting is scheduled for 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Boardman Park Gazebo (Route 224 entrance). Names or personal information won’t be necessary; it’s just a get-together to share feelings and have someone to lean on.

Survivors of Suicide in Columbiana County will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday at Columbiana County Counseling Center, 40722 state Route 154, Lisbon. This support group is for families who have lost a loved one to suicide. For information call Help Hotline Crisis Center at 330-424-7767.

VETERANS

Amvets Post 44 will have a Memorial Day picnic at 1 p.m. May 27 at the post home, 305 Elm St., Struthers. The event is open to all members, family and friends. The post will provide the main course, and those attending are asked to take a covered dish.
