Gridiron sponsors hosts spaghetti fundraiser

The Boardman Gridiron Club will host a spaghetti dinner fundraiser today from noon to 6 p.m. to benefit the Boardman High School football team.

The dinner will be served at the Boardman United Methodist Church and includes salad, pasta, bread and dessert.

The cost for the dinner will be $7 for adults, $5 for children 2-10 and kids under 2 eat free.

‘Boom Boom’ Mancini biography planned

A biography on Youngstown’s Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini called “The Good Son” is scheduled to be released in September. The book is written by Mark Kriegel, who also wrote bestselling biographies on “Pistol” Pete Maravich and Joe Namath.

Family-friendly racing at Canfield Sunday

The Canfield Harness Horsemen’s Association will present harness racing May 20 at the fairgrounds’ grandstand.

The non-wagering event will train young horses in an environment from starting gate to finish line and to give the public a chance to see how the horses are prepared for a race.

Families, including children, are welcome to get a close-up look at the horses, the drivers and the sulkies in which they sit. Gates to the fairgrounds will open at noon; post time is 12:30 p.m. Admission is free.

Football combine includes Don Beebe

Company founder, former Green Bay Packer, Buffalo Bill and Super Bowl champion Don Beebe will be on hand to lead the House of Speed elite football combine for athletes entering grades 9-12 on Saturday.

The combine is at the Infante Wellness Center in Niles from noon to 5:30. Registration opens at 10:30 a.m.
