Checkpoint tonight
Canfield
An operating a vehicle impaired checkpoint will be in Mahoning County tonight.
The location of the checkpoint is expected to be announced sometime today.
“State troopers make, on average, 25,000 OVI arrests each year in an attempt to combat these dangerous drivers,” said Lt. Chris Heverly, of the Ohio State Highway Patrol Canfield Post.
The checkpoint is paid for by federal grant money and is planned to deter and intercept impaired drivers.
Move discussed
WARREN
Dan Polivka, Trumbull County commissioner, said Thursday county officials have been in discussion with representatives of the Animal Welfare League of Trumbull County about moving the employees of the Trumbull County Dog Kennel to the Animal Welfare League’s new shelter in Vienna.
No decision has been made, however, he said.
During an open house at the former ThunderPlex in Vienna on Wednesday, Barbara Busko, president of the league, said the county dog warden would have an office in the league’s new facilities when they open in about a year and that the league would take over housing the dogs that are currently being handled at the county dog kennel on Anderson Avenue in Howland.
None of the three commissioners could be reached Wednesday to comment, but Gwen Logan, executive dog warden for the county, said she knew nothing about the idea.
