Block party set

Prostate Cancer Program set

A free prostate cancer program, “To Screen or Not to Screen” will be held on Tuesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Mr. Anthony’s, 7440 South Ave. Drs. Vince Ricchiuti, Mark Memo, Richard Nord and Paul Musselman will discuss the PSA screening test and if it’s recommended for men 50 or younger. This program will highlight some of the recent media information pertaining to when is the right time for screening.

Home furnishing consignment store opens

Re Arrangements, a home furnishing consignment store, had its grabd opening May 1 at 15 Stadium Dr. in Boardman. The store officially opened April 1 and specializes in gently-used furniture and home d cor. The family business is owned by Lexy Milton and Adam Witzeman. The store accepts gently-used furniture and home decor in “like new” condition.

Boardman grad earns scholarship

Jessica Szmara, a sophomore Christian education major, will receive a William Berlin Scholarship and the Dr. J.Y. and Mrs. Mary N. Jackson, Iva M. Jackson scholarship. Szmara is the a graduate of Boardman High School and the daughter of Janice Bates.

Brick fundraiser set

The George Brownlee Scholarship Committee is sponsoring a “Brick Fundraiser” to complete the Sports Complex Walkway at Boardman High School. There are two sizes of bricks available, a 4x8 and a 12x12. The 4x8 brick can accommodate three lines with 12 characters per line. The 12x12 is a granite brick and can accommodate eight lines with 20 characters per line.

The smaller brick is a $50 donation and the granite brick is a $500 donation. The donations are fully tax deductible. To contribute, contact the athletic office at 330-726-3423.

Cardinal Mooney student awarded scholarship

Cardinal Mooney senior Steve Perry, was awarded a $750 scholarship recently at the Boardman Civic Association’s annual banquet. Steve is the son of Brian and Michele Perry of Boardman.

Mancini earns full ride scholarship to YSU

Gina Mancini of Boardman, a senior at Canfield High School, has been named a University Scholar at Youngstown State University — the most prestigious scholarship at the university.

The Leslie H. Cochran University Scholars Award, now in its 20th year, covers full tuition, room and board, as well as a voucher for textbooks. Mancini is among only 40 high school seniors from Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Iowa and Washington state to receive the award this year.

Mancini will major in Industrial Engineering.

The new class of University Scholars was presented May 8 to YSU President Cynthia E. Anderson at a luncheon on campus.

Create soap at the library

The Boardman library presents Soap! Soap! Soap! on Thursday at 7 p.m. Children of all ages are invited to listen to stories and create a soap craft activity. The program will last one hour and all children will leave with a small soap sample they created. Preschoolers must attend with an adult.

The Boardman library will host family story time on May 30 at 10 a.m. Children of all ages are invited to hear stories and play Bingo. Preschoolers must attend with an adult.

Boardman to host middle school concert

The Boardman Middle Schools will present a fifth, sixth and seventh-grade spring band concert on May 30 at 7 p.m. in the Boardman High School Performing Arts Center.

This concert will feature the fifth, sixth and seventh-grade bands combined from both Center and Glenwood middle schools. Admission is $3 for adults, $3 for students and senior citizens and children under 10 are free.

Baby bargain boutique set

Boardman Park will be hosting its annual Baby Bargain Boutique today from 9 a.m. to noon at Masters Pavilion. Admission is free. The boutique will have usable baby, children and maternity clothing, toys, books, furniture and much more for children under the age of five. Murder Mystery dinner needs suspects

The Myrddin Winery in Lake Milton will host a Murder Mystery dinner on Friday at 7 p.m. and is searching for people to participate in the show.

Anyone interested in being one of the eight murder suspects or 16 sleuths should call 330-654-9181. Especially needed are people to play the murder suspects.

Libraries closing notice

All libraries in the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County system will be closed on May 27 and 28.

Wound Care center relocates

The St. Elizabeth Boardman Wound Care Center has moved to 7010 South Ave., Suite 6 in Boardman. The new office, at the corner of South Avenue and Trailwood Drive, opened this morning and is convenient to Route 224 and Interstate 680, providing easier access for patients than its former DeBartolo Place office.

St. Elizabeth Wound Care Center specializes in providing comprehensive care for chronic, non-healing wounds using the latest treatments and technologies. Treatment is tailored to each patient’s unique needs and requirements, and complements the care provided by the patient’s primary care physician.

The staff consists of physicians who specialize in the treatment of chronic wounds, nurses specially trained to care for patients with these wounds, and experienced technicians.

Eat pasta, support Tyler

A pasta dinner in support of Tyler Branca will be held tomorrow from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church, 7345 Westview Drive. The cost is $9 for adults and $6 for children 10 and under. Dinner includes pasta, meatballs, salad, roll, dessert, coffee, tea and orange drink. Pasta, sauce and meatballs are donated by Cafe Capri.

Branca is a 21-year-old college student who was recently diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Monetary donations are also accepted at any First National Bank — just ask for the Tyler Branca Fund.

Italian Fest to be in August

The Greater Youngstown Italian Fest will be held on Aug. 3-5 in downtown Youngstown. The festival is now accepting applications for the Italian Man and Woman of the Year.
