Medical Alliance names"Gem of the Year"

The Mahoning County Medical Society Alliance recently named Paula Jakubek of Canfield as its Gem of the Year.

The honor was bestowed at a joint dinner meeting with the Medical Society that took place April 27 at Los Gallos Banquet Center in Boardman.

Jakubek is recognized as a member who has served the group and community with distinction. She was president in 2009 and co-president in 2011. During her tenure the group successfully raised funds for the Midlothian Free Clinic and Second Harvest Food Bank Backpack Program for children. She also has coordinated the group’s blood drives and holiday bake sales, worked on the Charity Fashion Show, and helped raise $22,500 for the Akron Children’s Garden of Hope.

In addition to her work with the Alliance, Jakubek is an active member of Junior League of Youngstown, Kid’s Crew of Akron Children’s Hospital of Mahoning Valley, St. Maron Church and Girl Scouts. She also spent many years as a volunteer with Angels for Animals. She and her husband, John, have two children, Joy and John Jr.
