OneRepublic drummer faces assault charge

DENVER

The drummer for the band OneRepublic was arrested in Denver after his girlfriend said he grabbed her head and threw her down during a fight.

Eddie Fisher was being held in jail Wednesday, a day after being arrested on suspicion of assault, destruction of private property and disturbing the peace.

Lonnie Weygant told officers that she tried to hide in the bathroom after the fight but the 38-year-old forced the door open.

Fisher told police that she hit him in the head.

It wasn’t known whether Fisher had retained a lawyer.

OneRepublic’s songs include “Apologize” and “All the Right Moves.”

Prison transfer for Lennon’s killer

BUFFALO, N.Y.

John Lennon’s killer has been transferred to another maximum-security state prison in western New York after spending more than 30 years in Attica Correctional Facility.

The Buffalo News reports that 57-year-old Mark David Chapman was transferred Tuesday from Attica to the nearby Wende Correctional Facility in Alden, 20 miles east of Buffalo.

A spokesman for the state prison system says the agency doesn’t disclose why inmates are transferred to a new facility.

Chapman fatally shot Lennon in December 1980 outside the Manhattan apartment building where the former Beatle lived. Chapman pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced in 1981 to 20 years to life in prison.

He was denied parole for the sixth time in September 2010. He’s eligible again for parole in August.

CANNES, France

“The Dictator” knows how to make a scene.

Sacha Baron Cohen’s comedy character turned up at the Cannes Film Festival on Wednesday with two of his model bodyguards and a camel, bringing the famed Croisette promenade to a standstill.

It’s his latest stunt for “The Dictator,” released Wednesday, where he plays Admiral General Aladeen, the freedom-hating military dictator of the fictional North African Republic of Wadiya.

Cannes Film Festival runs until May 27.
