New biology books

New biology books

POLAND

The Poland Schools Foundation for Educational Excellence has offered to pay $4,200 to replace 10-year-old advanced-placement biology books so that the course can retain its accreditation. The Poland school board will have to authorize the purchase, and the foundation will donate money to cover the cost to the district.

The foundation is an academic booster club that has raised more than $265,000 during its existence to fund scholarships and internal projects in the Poland school district.

Pa. Turnpike speed could be increased

HARRISBURG, Pa.

The speed limit on the Pennsylvania Turnpike could increase to 70 mph if a Pittsburgh lawmaker Joe Preston gets his way. The House Transportation Committee endorsed the bill last week by a vote of 18-4, but it’s unclear whether it will be debated on the House floor.

The proposed increase would be the first since the limit was increased in 1995 from 55 to 65.
