No injuries, damage after quake in Anchorage area

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Seismologists say an earthquake that struck in southern Alaska near Anchorage was widely felt in the city and other communities.

The Alaska Earthquake Information Center says the 4.6 magnitude quake occurred at 7:02 a.m. today. It struck eight miles south of Anchorage.

Alec Medbery with the West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center says there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage.

Anchorage residents, as well as those from Palmer, Wasilla, Talkeetna, Kenai and other communities, reported feeling the earthquake to the U.S. Geological Survey.
