Boys tennis continues at Oberlin and Canton

Fourteen area boys tennis players will continue their quest for a state championship in district tournament play this week.

Starting on Thursday at Oberlin College, the Division I tournament will feature three players from Canfield.

Tony El-Hayek will play singles as the No. 4 seed from the Canton sectional.

His teammates, Will Brown and Nicholas Debiec, advanced with a third-place finish in the sectional.

The semifinals and finals will be played on Saturday, with the top four finishers qualifying for the state tournament.

In Div. II, 11 players qualified from the sectional, and will begin district play on Friday at Weis Park in Canton.

In singles, sectional champion Mitch Maroscher of Salem will be joined by Garrett Gardner of Poland and Jad Abdul-Aal of Warren JFK.

Doubles teams who qualified are Zack McDivitt and Aaron Paczac of Lakeview, Jay Linam and Andre Pietrazak of Salem, Ryan Calcagni and David Shofstall of Poland, and Tyler Cole and JohnNader of Warren JFK.

The semifinals and finals at Canton will also be played Saturday, with the top four finishers advancing.
