Postal Service plan sensible

Huron (Mich.) Daily Tribune: The U.S. Postal Service has announced a plan to keep thousands of rural post offices nationwide, but with limited hours for business.

The plan calls for employees to work fewer hours at the post offices as a way to deal with financial problems at the mail agency, which was planning to close up to 3,700 low-revenue branches.

Under the emerging strategy, no post office would be closed. But more than 13,000 rural mail facilities could see reduced operations of between two and six hours.

While it is unfortunate that employees will lose some of their working hours, the move should be welcomed across the nation by many residents in rural communities.

Our communities are among those in rural America that rely on small town post offices. The Postal Service has heard our voices, and this is greatly appreciated.
