For Valley sports fans who would like to rub elbows with elite coaches of the NFL and college football, this is your week.

Thursday at Mr. Anthony’s Banquet Center, former Youngstown State and Ohio State coach Jim Tressel will be the keynote speaker for the United Way’s 7th annual “Champions Among Us” dinner.

Tressel, who led YSU to four national championships and Ohio State to the 2002 BCS title, will be joined by Michael Zordich, former Cardinal Mooney and current Penn State football player.

Zordich will be honored by the United Way of Youngstown and the Mahoning Valley as the local champion who has represented the Valley in a positive manner.

PENN STATE ALUMNI EVENT

Four Penn State head coaches will appear at the Holiday Inn Boardman today for a Nittany Lion Club and Penn State Alumni Association event.

Football coach Bill O’Brien, women’s basketball coach Coquese Washington, men’s volleyball coach Mark Pavlik and men’s hockey coach Guy Gadowsky will be in town for a luncheon.

Shurmur at Regional Chamber

Cleveland Browns coach Pat Shurmur will headline a Regional Chamber executive luncheon on Friday at the Maronite Center titled “Football Friday with the Cleveland Browns.”

Shurmur will talk about plans for the 2012 season and be available to field questions about the team.

Current and alumni players will be on hand at the luncheon as well as the voice of the Browns, Jim Donovan.
