US judge sentences Youngstown man to 30 months in prison

CLEVELAND

A defendant who pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine has been sentenced to 30 months in federal prison, followed by three years of supervised release.

U.S. District Judge Dan Aaron Polster imposed the sentence Friday on Blake Burns Mannor, 30, of Youngstown, who conspired to distribute the drug between January and July 2010, according to the indictment. Mannor was one of 25 Youngstown-area residents named in that federal grand- jury indictment, which was issued last June. The drug sales occurred on Youngstown’s East Side and in Campbell, authorities said. Thirty-seven additional defendants were indicted on state charges.

Celebrate Poland sets town meeting

Celebrate Poland will have a community meeting at 9 a.m. next Saturday at the Poland Township Government Center, 3339 Dobbins Road.

Celebrate Poland will be June 29 and 30. The Firemen’s Parade is scheduled for June 29 and will be followed by a “Battle of the Bands,” featuring six ranges of musical styles. Cultural and historical activities and a fireworks display are scheduled for June 30.

Organizers will unveil a new website and full schedule, which includes the craft show and Poland Idol talent contest, at the meeting.

So your pet is cute? Take part in contest

Walmart’s Relay For Life team will have a Cutest Pet Contest at 11 a.m. next Saturday in the Walmart parking lot, 1300 Doral Drive. Registration is from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on site, and the cost is $10 per pet. Proceeds benefit the American Cancer Society. Angels for Animals will be there with its mobile adoption unit.

The event is open to dogs and cats. Pets must be leashed or caged at all times, and owners are responsible for cleaning up after their pets.

The following prizes will be awarded: 1st place, $75 gift card and gift basket; 2nd place, $50 gift card and gift basket; 3rd place, gift basket; and People’s Choice, $25 gift card. An auction also is planned. If the event is canceled because of weather, call the store for instructions.

Fitness in the Park begins in Boardman

Boardman Park is beginning its Fitness in the Park programming for this year.

Classes meet at the Maag Outdoor Theatre and are for all ages and endurance levels. Participates are asked to bring water bottles, mat and weights. Classes include Backyard Boot Camp, Mommy & Me Boot Camp, Senior Striders, Phenomenal Abdominal and Power Sculpting. Session one goes from now until June 16 and it’s not too late to sign up.
