NBC renews ‘30 Rock’ and ‘Parenthood’

LOS ANGELES

NBC’s veteran series “30 Rock” and “Parenthood” have been picked up for another season, and the network this fall will add two other series, “Do No Harm” and “Infamous,” the network announced.

The new season of “30 Rock” — its seventh and final season — will be abbreviated, with only 13 episodes. “Parenthood” will be entering its fourth season.

“Do No Harm” is a medical drama that puts a twist on the classic Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde story, revolving around a neurosurgeon with a dark alter-ego. “Infamous” features a female detective who goes undercover to the rich family she grew up in — as the maid’s daughter — to solve the murder of the heiress who had been her best friend.

ABC televising tightrope walk

NEW YORK

ABC is turning Nik Wallenda’s attempted tightrope walk over Niagara Falls into a prime-time television event next month.

The network said Friday it will devote its entire prime-time schedule to a three-hour special June 15 with the daredevil’s attempt. Part of the show will be an examination of the greatest stunts of all time.

Wallenda is a member of the famous daredevil family. His great-grandfather, Karl, fell to his death in a tightrope walk in Puerto Rico at age 78.

Daredevils routinely used to make tightrope walks over the Niagara River gorge, downstream of the falls, until the practice was banned. Nik Wallenda’s stunt will be the first attempted walk over the falls themselves.
