The Teen Bible Quiz team from Covenant Life Fellowship went undefeated at the district meet to become the Ohio State Champions.

The team competed Friday and today at the regional level in Bowling Green.

The top five teams will advance to nationals in July in Columbus.

This is the first time that nationals have been in Ohio.

Teen Bible Quiz is an Assemblies of God ministry for students in grades six through 12 with competition from October through July.

Every year, students are asked to memorize a set portion of the New Testament.

This year, students were quizzed about Hebrews and 1 and 2 Peter.

Teams advancing to nationals will learn the book of Jude.

The championship is a first for Covenant Life students and a first in church history.

For a fundraiser, the team will sell Schwan’s products from 1 to 5 p.m. next Saturday at Hubbard municipal building parking lot.

Rogation Sunday

St. James’ Episcopal Church, 7640 Glenwood Ave., will observe Rogation Sunday this weekend, the sixth Sunday after Easter, with blessing of animals at 4:30 p.m.

Rogation Sunday is a traditional time to give thanks for God’s creations. All animals are welcome.

For safety, dogs must be leashed, and cats must be in carriers.

Owners unable to bring their pets are welcome to bring photos.

The Rev. Kelly Marshall will offer an individual blessing for each pet.

Treats for people and animals will follow.

Anniversary event

Union Baptist Church Family, 528 Lincoln Ave., will celebrate the 17th pastoral anniversary of Pastor Michael H. Harrison and his wife, Sylvia, next weekend.

A worship concert will be at 6 p.m. next Saturday featuring the UBC Fellowship Mass Choir and Friends directed by Pastor Darren Thomas of Rebirth Worship Center in Columbus.

Pastor Judah Early of Mount Hebron Baptist Church in Cleveland will be guest preacher at a service at 10:45 a.m. May 20.

Concert planned

New Hope Baptist Church, 437 Albert St., will present a Mother’s Day concert at 5 p.m. today featuring the Rosebuds Youth Choir and James Ferguson, minister of music at Tabernacle Baptist Church.

Free movie planned

Bridging of the Spirit Christian Center will sponsor a free movie, “Courageous,” at noon May 19 in the East Branch Library conference room, Early Road.

Greg Smelley and Elder Felicia Cotton will lead a discussion afterward.

Light refreshments will be served.

Ministries chapter

Patty Scahill will be guest speaker when the Youngstown Chapter of Igniting New Life Ministries, an interdenominational ministry, meets May 21 in Georgeanna Parker Activity Center in Boardman Park.

Fellowship will begin at 6:30 p.m. with ministry at 7.

Scahill is the author of “Mirror Mirror in the Word,” “Strategic Guide to Spiritual Warfare” and “The Wilderness Journey.”

She also is a contributing columnist on the Religion page of The Vindicator.

Labyrinth walks

Villa Maria, Pa.

Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center will begin its guided labyrinth walks from 2 to 4 p.m. May 20 at Villa Maria Community Center. The theme is “Path of Transformation.” The labyrinth is a tool for enriching the spiritual journey. Sister Therese Pavilonis will offer a brief history and introduction. Registration is not required but appreciated.

A free-will offering will be accepted. Participants should meet at the outdoor labyrinth.

Greater Mahoning Valley District Churches of God in Christ has scheduled the annual women’s conference Thursday and Friday at Fellowship Tabernacle Christian Center COGIC, 2139 Market St. Elder Kenny Eldridge is host pastor. Services start at 7 p.m. At 6:30, there will be a church suit sale.

Pursued Ministry of Restoration Christian Fellowship Church, 151 Folsom St., NW, will present “Unashamed” Swag Night 2012 from 8 p.m. to midnight May 25 featuring poetry, dance, Christian rap and mimes. Tickets are $5 in advance or $10 at the door. The event is for those 18 and older. Refreshments will be served.
