A free prostate cancer program, “To Screen or Not to Screen” will be held on May 22 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Mr. Anthony’s, 7440 South Ave. Drs. Vince Ricchiuti, Mark Memo, Richard Nord and Paul Musselman will discuss the PSA screening test and if it’s recommended for men 50 or younger. This program will highlight some of the recent media information pertaining to when is the right time for screening.

Home furnishing consignment store opens
Re Arrangements, a home furnishing consignment store, had its grabd opening May 1 at 15 Stadium Dr. in Boardman. The store officially opened April 1 and specializes in gently-used furniture and home d cor.
The family business is owned by Lexy Milton and Adam Witzeman. The store accepts gently-used furniture and home decor in “like new” condition.

Garden club hosts annual plant sale
The Men’s Garden Club of Youngstown will host its annual plant sale May 17-19 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the MASCO greenhouse on South Avenue and Bev Road in Boardman. The sale helps to support the club’s annual horticulture scholarship and other civic projects in the Youngstown area. Many flower and vegetable plants and hanging baskets will be for sale. Six packs sell for $2.25 and flats for $11.95.
Boardman grad earn scholarship
Jessica Szmara, a sophomore Christian education major, will receive a William Berlin Scholarship and the Dr. J.Y. and Mrs. Mary N. Jackson, Iva M. Jackson scholarship. Szmara is a graduate of Boardman High School and the daughter of Janice Bates.
The George Brownlee Scholarship Committee is sponsoring a “Brick Fundraiser” to complete the Sports Complex Walkway at Boardman High School. There are two sizes of bricks available, a 4x8 and a 12x12. The 4x8 brick can accommodate three lines with 12 characters per line. The 12x12 is a granite brick and can accommodate eight lines with 20 characters per line. The smaller brick is a $50 donation and the granite brick is a $500 donation. Cardinal Mooney student awarded scholarship
Cardinal Mooney senior Steve Perry, was awarded a $750 scholarship recently at the Boardman Civic Association’s annual banquet. Steve is the son of Brian and Michele Perry of Boardman.
Boardman grad honored
Michael Henson, a 2011 Boardman High School graduate was recently chosen to be inducted into The Ohio State University Alpha Zeta Partners Honors Society. Induction into the society is based on scholarship, leadership and character attributes and is given to only 20 students in the freshman and sophomore classes combined. Henson is a freshman at The Ohio State University majoring in Pre-Veterinary Medicine. He is the son of Keith and Sheila Henson of Canfield.
Mancini earns full ride scholarship to YSU
Gina Mancini of Boardman, a senior at Canfield High School, has been named a University Scholar at Youngstown State University — the most prestigious scholarship at the university.
The Leslie H. Cochran University Scholars Award, now in its 20th year, covers full tuition, room and board, as well as a voucher for textbooks. Mancini is among only 40 high school seniors from Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Iowa and Washington state to receive the award this year.
Mancini will major in Industrial Engineering.
The new class of University Scholars was presented May 8 to YSU President Cynthia E. Anderson at a luncheon on campus.
Generate leads for your business website
The Boardman library will host BIC: Generating Leads for Your Business Website on May 14 at 6:30 p.m. Tyler Clark, from the Youngstown Business Incubator will present the program. The program will take a step-by-step look at online lead-generation from start to finish.
Create soap at the library
The Boardman library presents Soap! Soap! Soap! on May 24 at 7 p.m. Children of all ages are invited to listen to stories and create a soap craft activity. The program will last one hour and all children will leave with a small soap sample they created. Preschoolers must attend with an adult.

The Boardman library will host Fun Time for 4s and 5s on May 15 and 22 at 10 a.m. The program will include developmentally-appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finger plays and other activities that will help children, ages 4-5, become successful readers. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Tales and Talk for 2s and 3s
The Boardman library will hosts Baby Brilliant: Tales and Talk for 2s and 3s on May 16 and 23 at 10 a.m. The program will include developmentally-appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finger plays and other activities that will help children, ages 2-3, become successful readers. Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Boardman to host middle school concert
The Boardman Middle Schools will present a fifth, sixth and seventh-grade spring band concert on May 30 at 7 p.m. in the Boardman High School Performing Arts Center.
This concert will feature the fifth, sixth and seventh-grade bands combined from both Center and Glenwood middle schools. Admission is $3 for adults, $3 for students and senior citizens and children under 10 are free.
Libraries closing notice
All libraries in the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County system will be closed tomorrow, May 27 and 28.
Dairy Queen hosts kids cake decorating
The Cornersburg and Austintown Dairy Queens will host Kids Cake Decorating for Mom today. The Cornersburg location, 3555 S. Meridian Road, will host the event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the Austintown location, 146 N. Canfield-Niles Road, will be hosting it from 1 to 4 p.m. A qualified DQ cake decorator will be on hand to assist. Kids can create their own design, add sprinkles, gel, icing and candy or place an edible image of their choice on the cake. This is an open house event. It only takes about 15 minutes to decorate a cake. Call to reserve a spot so the appropriate amount of decorators are available to assist children. Children must be supervised by an adult.
Regional Chamber luncheon set
Cleveland Browns head coach Pat Schurmur will headline a Regional Chamber executive luncheon titled “Football Friday with the Cleveland Browns” on May 18 at the Maronite Center, 1555 S. Meridian Road. Registration, networking and lunch begin at 11:15 a.m., with the program starting at noon.
Schurmur will talk about plans for the 2012-2013 season and be available to field questions about the team, including his take on how the Browns did in the 2012 NFL Draft.
Current and alumni players will be on hand at the luncheon as well as the voice of the Browns, Jim Donovan.
This event is open to Chamber members and nonmembers. Cost is $25 and includes the program, lunch and a Browns souvenir as well as give-a-ways throughout the program.

Boardman Park will be hosting its annual Baby Bargain Boutique on May 19 from 9 a.m. to noon at Masters Pavilion. Admission is free. Murder Mystery dinner needs suspects
The Myrddin Winery in Lake Milton will host a Murder Mystery dinner May 25 at 7 p.m. and is searching for people to participate in the show.

Wound Care center relocates
The St. Elizabeth Boardman Wound Care Center has moved to 7010 South Ave., Suite 6 in Boardman. The new office, at the corner of South Avenue and Trailwood Drive, opened this morning and is convenient to Route 224 and Interstate 680, providing easier access for patients than its former DeBartolo Place office.
St. Elizabeth Wound Care Center specializes in providing comprehensive care for chronic, non-healing wounds using the latest treatments and technologies. Treatment is tailored to each patient’s unique needs and requirements, and complements the care provided by the patient’s primary care physician.
The staff consists of physicians who specialize in the treatment of chronic wounds, nurses specially trained to care for patients with these wounds, and experienced technicians.

Eat pasta, support Tyler
A pasta dinner in support of Tyler Branca will be held on May 20 from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church, 7345 Westview Drive. The cost is $9 for adults and $6 for children 10 and under. Dinner includes pasta, meatballs, salad, roll, dessert, coffee, tea and orange drink. Pasta, sauce and meatballs are donated by Cafe Capri.
Branca is a 21-year-old college student who was recently diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Monetary donations are also accepted at any First National Bank — just ask for the Tyler Branca Fund.
Italian Fest to be in August
The Greater Youngstown Italian Fest will be held on Aug. 3-5 in downtown Youngstown. The festival is now accepting applications for the Italian Man and Woman of the Year.

Car Trunk and Treasure Sale set
The Ursuline Center Car Trunk and Treasure Sale will be July 14 at 9 a.m. in the parking lot of the Ursuline Center on Shields Road in Canfield. Spaces are now available for cars. The cost for a side-by-side space is $25, but the fee will increase to $30 after June 30. All spaces are first-come, first-served.
The sale will also include food and refreshments on sale as well as a book, bake and furniture sale that be will held inside the center. The sale of pets, firearms and fireworks will not be permitted.

Participate in Ohio Plant Lover’s Tour
The MetroParks is traveling to Ohio Prairie Nursery on May 30 to see native plants best suited for Ohio. The bus will continue on to the American Herb Society and Holden Arboretum for lunch and a tour. The David G. Leach Research Station displaying spectacular rhododendrons is the last stop before a delicious dinner at the Ferrante Winery and Ristorante. Cost is $135 ($95 for FFRG members).
