Police probe shooting, robberies
YOUNGSTOWN
Youngstown police are investigating two recent aggravated robberies and a shooting.
Police found a 19-year-old West Virginia woman lying in the parking lot of a South Avenue business with no shirt just before midnight Wednesday. Officers were told the woman had been sprayed with Mace and robbed.
A 22-year-old friend of the victim told police she and her friend had come to Youngstown to go shopping, but then decided to attend a party with a friend. The women went to a fast-food restaurant on Fifth Avenue to meet a friend before going to the party.
Reports say the 22-year-old friend got out of the car, and a male immediately jumped in the car and robbed the 19-year-old driver. Reports say the man demanded money, and when told there was no money, he sprayed the woman with Mace and took items from the car.
Police found the can of Mace in the car, but reports say both women were “less than forthcoming” about the circumstances of the robbery or why they drove across town before calling police.
Police said another alleged victim of crime Wednesday also was less than forthcoming. A 39-year-old Glenmont Avenue man walked into St. Elizabeth Health Center about 5:30 p.m. with a gunshot wound to the leg. The man, however, would not cooperate with police or explain what happened other than that he was shot somewhere on the North Side.
Officers spoke to the man’s aunt who brought him to the hospital. She told police her nephew was not at first even willing to come to the hospital for treatment.
The man was listed in stable condition.
A 45-year-old Lowell Avenue man told police he was robbed while giving a man a ride home from a South Side bar Monday, but was too intoxicated to contact police until Wednesday.
The man said he left the South Avenue bar about midnight and gave the man, whom he does not know, a ride to Boston Avenue because it was raining. The unknown man, however, pointed a gun to his head and ultimately took his car keys and ran off.
The man said he was intoxicated at the time and did not file a police report.
