POLICE CALLS
A summary of recent criminal activity in Girard and Liberty:
GIRARD
May 7
Menacing: A North Highland Avenue woman said a man has been harassing and threatening her as part of ongoing problems between them.
Theft: Two bowling balls, a tool kit, a floor jack and a golf club were taken from a vehicle in the 200 block of Church Hill Road, for an estimated loss of $775.
May 8
Menacing: A Crumlin Avenue woman reported her son received a voice-mail message stating he would be killed.
Criminal damaging: A Taylor Avenue woman realized someone had cut her phone line.
Theft/vandalism: A man discovered aluminum down-spouting had been stolen and damaged on a building in the 500 block of North State Street.
Breaking and entering: Two males were seen running from a vacant residence in the 200 block of South Davis Street before police found a broken rear window. It appeared nothing had been stolen, however.
May 9
Theft: A North Highland Avenue man reported the theft of a $750 off-road dirt bike.
Menacing: A Girard woman said a boy has continually sent and made unwanted text messages and calls to her teenage daughter.
LIBERTY
May 4
Harassment: A Scott Lane man told police another man has been harassing and threatening the accuser and some of his family members.
Arrest: Police at the Mahoning County jail picked up 38-year-old Harold W. Charron, 1011 Margaret St., Youngstown. He was accused of failing to appear in court to face a charge of receiving stolen property.
Burglary: To a home in the 4600 block of Logan Way, apparently after someone had pried open the front door. Among items stolen were a 42-inch, flat-screen TV and two laptop computers, for a loss of $3,100.
Arrest: Police took into custody 43-year-old Kathryn F. Ratliff at her residence, 1329 W. Montrose St., Liberty. Ratliff was wanted on a felony warrant from the township.
May 5
Weapon/drugs: Officers responded to possible drug use at an East Liberty Street motel, where they charged 21-year-old Brenda M. Jones with one misdemeanor count each of carrying a concealed weapon and possession of dangerous drugs. Jones, of 428 Fourth St. SW, Warren, had a loaded semiautomatic handgun and prescription medications in an unlabeled bottle, a report said.
Domestic violence: Cameron R. Twyford, 18, of 5772 Sampson Drive, Liberty, was charged with the crime after his brother and father alleged Twyford had struck them several times with a cable cord during a heated argument. The father also alleged Twyford had bitten his left arm as the accuser held him down and struck his head and face.
Auto theft: A 2002 Chevrolet Monte Carlo was stolen in the 1300 block of Virginia Trail.
Theft: Joanna M. Micklus, 19, of Tulsa, Okla., faced a theft charge after police accused her of violating the township’s ordinance against soliciting by going door to door to collect money on behalf of a traveling softball team. Beforehand, officers received similar complaints about solicitors asking for donations to help wounded soldiers, a report showed.
Recovered property: A speed-loader machine was found in a parking lot in the 4200 block of Belmont Avenue.
May 6
Arrest: Police in the 2700 block of Belmont Avenue took custody of Derrick McIntosh, 43, no address listed, who was wanted on an outstanding warrant accusing him of failing to appear in court.
Arrest: Authorities responding to a dispute in the 10 block of Tuttle Lane arrested 37-year-old Stephen P. Rodgers, 5 Tuttle, Liberty, on a probation-violation charge.
Arrest: Daniel S. Day, 18, of 607 N. Hartford Ave., Youngstown, faced a charge of having an open container of alcohol after an off-duty officer at a Belmont Avenue fast-food restaurant said he saw Day enter with an open bottle of beer.
May 7
Auto theft: A 2003 Mercury Marauder was stolen in the 4000 block of Jefferson Court.
Menacing: A Townsend Avenue man said a former co-worker has made threatening calls, and that she intentionally struck and did minor damage to his car’s rear bumper.
Theft/drugs: While responding to a shoplifting report at Walmart, 200 Goldie Road, officers charged 50-year-old Brian W. Pressley, 3041 Green Acres Drive, Liberty, with possession of drug-abuse instruments and drug paraphernalia when, they said, a suspected crack pipe and a syringe were found. A theft charge was pending.
Breaking and entering: Someone cut the lock to a tool shed in the 1600 block of Shannon Road before removing a 22-inch push mower and a roto-tiller device.
May 8
Theft: Copper piping, two dehumidifiers and a digital lock were stolen from a piece of bank-owned property in the 3400 block of Fifth Avenue.
Arrest: Weathersfield Township police handed 55-year-old Timothy Maloy, 1600 Motor Inn Drive, Liberty, to township authorities. Maloy was wanted on a contempt-of-court warrant related to a charge of disorderly conduct.
Burglary: To a home in the 2000 block of Tibbetts-Wick Road through a side door. Taken were a $3,000 wedding band and other jewelry, for an estimated $5,400 loss.
Arrest: Richard Figueroa, 42, of 90 Washington Blvd., Boardman, was taken into custody in the 2700 block of Belmont Avenue. He was accused of failing to appear in court to face a domestic-violence charge.
May 9
Theft/drug paraphernalia: Michael A. Deans Sr., 54, of 1619 Logan Ave., Youngstown, faced charges of theft and possession of drug paraphernalia after shelving units were stolen from behind Walmart. Deans, who also was wanted on a warrant, had a suspected marijuana pipe, police said.
Assault/drugs: Authorities responded to a disturbance at a Belmont Avenue motel, then charged 30-year-old Adam L. Grayson of Oneonta, Ala., with aggravated assault on a peace officer, vandalism, disorderly conduct and possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia after saying he had tried to kick two officers and was combative in their cruiser. A belligerent Grayson also had a bag of suspected marijuana and several syringes in his room, a report showed.
Theft: Two Youngstown boys, 13 and 14, reportedly stole $1,348 worth of tools from Walmart, though the property was recovered.
Arrest: Jeffrey L. Shugart, 39, of 306 Hyatt Ave., Campbell, was picked up at the Mahoning County jail. He was wanted on an outstanding township warrant.
May 10
Arrest: Jackson-Milton Township police brought to Liberty authorities 31-year-old Kristin N. Henderson, 931 Cameron Ave., Youngstown, who was accused of failing to appear in court on a theft charge.
Arrest: A traffic stop near Logan Way and Interstate 80 led to charges of operating a vehicle impaired and failure to obey a traffic signal against Ken E. Lucas, 32, of 1147 Johnston-Plank Road NE, Warren.
