Girard’s Maderitz is close to perfect

Girard High softball pitcher Nico Maderitz had a perfect game going for 62/3 innings.

Then Mogadore’s C.J. Lang’s bloop single landed.

Still, the Indians won, 4-0, to advance to next week’s district semifinal game against Ursuline.

Maderitz (17-5) struck out 17 batters for the Indians (21-6).

Maderitz also had two doubles and two RBIs while Kylee Kulon hit a triple.

Nichol Mazzella added a pair of singles for the Indians.
