Nicholas Reinthaler, a sophomore biochemistry major, will receive a Clyde A. Armstrong Memorial Scholarship. He is a graduate of Canfield High School and the son of Joseph and Linda Reinthaler.

Canfield grad accepts internship

Kedron Taylor, a 2009 graduate of Canfield High School, has accepted an internship with Disney World for the 2012/2013 fall semester. She is currently a junior in the Scripps School of Communications at Ohio University. She is the daughter of Terence and Gia Taylor and the granddaughter of Joseph and Barbara Caruss and Margaret Taylor, all of Canfield.

Dairy Queen hosts kids cake decorating today

The Cornersburg and Austintown Dairy Queens will host Kids Cake Decorating for Mom today. The Cornersburg location, 3555 S. Meridian Road, will host the event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the Austintown location, 146 N. Canfield-Niles Road, will be hosting it from 1 to 4 p.m. A qualified DQ cake decorator will be on hand to assist. Kids can create their own design, add sprinkles, gel, icing and candy or place an edible image of their choice on the cake. This is an open house event. It only takes about 15 minutes to decorate a cake. Call to reserve a spot so the appropriate amount of decorators are available to assist children. Children must be supervised by an adult.

Garden club hosts annual plant sale

The Men’s Garden Club of Youngstown will host its annual plant sale May 17-19 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the MASCO greenhouse on South Avenue and Bev Road in Boardman. The sale helps to support the club’s annual horticulture scholarship and other civic projects in the Youngstown area. Many flower and vegetable plants and hanging baskets will be for sale. Six packs sell for $2.25 and flats for $11.95.

Eat pasta, support Tyler

A pasta dinner in support of Tyler Branca will be held on May 20 from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church, 7345 Westview Drive. The cost is $9 for adults and $6 for children 10 and under. Dinner includes pasta, meatballs, salad, roll, dessert, coffee, tea and orange drink. Pasta, sauce and meatballs are donated by Cafe Capri.

Branca is a 21-year-old college student who was recently diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Monetary donations are also accepted at any First National Bank — just ask for the Tyler Branca Fund.

Prostate Cancer Program set

A free prostate cancer program, “To Screen or Not to Screen” will be held on May 22 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Mr. Anthony’s, 7440 South Ave. Drs. Vince Ricchiuti, Mark Memo, Richard Nord and Paul Musselman will discuss the PSA screening test and if it’s recommended for men 50 or younger. This program will highlight some of the recent media information pertaining to when is the right time for screening.

Home furnishing consignment store opens

Re Arrangements, a home furnishing consignment store, had its grand opening May 1 at 15 Stadium Dr. in Boardman. The store officially opened April 1 and specializes in gently-used furniture and home d cor.

The family business is owned by Lexy Milton and Adam Witzeman. The store accepts gently-used furniture and home decor in “like new” condition.

Summer Park Program set

The City of Canfield will hold their Summer Park Program June 11-29 at Greasel Park. The program will be Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for children 6-12. The event will include outdoor sports, games, crafts and various speakers.

The deadline for applications is May 21. Applications must be turned in at the city building with a copy of a birth certificate. No application will be accepted after the deadline.

Canfield student Mancini earns full ride scholarship to YSU

Gina Mancini of Boardman, a senior at Canfield High School, has been named a University Scholar at Youngstown State University — the most prestigious scholarship at the university.

The Leslie H. Cochran University Scholars Award, now in its 20th year, covers full tuition, room and board, as well as a voucher for textbooks. Mancini is among only 40 high school seniors from Ohio, Pennsylvania, Indiana, Iowa and Washington state to receive the award this year.

Mancini will major in Industrial Engineering.

The new class of University Scholars was presented May 8 to YSU President Cynthia E. Anderson at a luncheon on campus.

Writers group meets in Canfield May 21

Area writers may attend a Monday Night Writers meeting May 21 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Peaberry’s Caf , 4350 Boardman-Canfield Road.

Led by author and professional writer Nancy Christie, the two-hour sessions will include both writing exercises and discussions on the creative and business aspects of writing. Those with ‘works-in-progress’ are welcome to bring copies of their projects for comments and critiques from the group.

Canfield native graduates from Nebraska-Lincoln

Danielle Marie Spencer of Canfield was among more than 2,800 students who received degrees from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln at commencement exercises May 4-5. Spencer received a juris doctorate from the College of Law.

Canfield financial adviser earns national recognition

Merrill Lynch financial adviser Sidney G. Jones, from the Canfield office, has been nationally recognized as one of the top advisers in Ohio by Barron’s magazine in its annual “America’s Top 1,000 Advisors: State-by-State” list, published in the Feb. 20, 2012 edition.

In total, 287 Merrill Lynch advisers are included on this year’s list, the most advisers for any firm.

Advisers considered for Barron’s “America’s Top 1,000 Advisors: State-by-State” ranking have a minimum of seven years’ financial services experience and have been employed at their current firm for at least one year.

Pharmacy opens Canfield location on Village Green

Pharmacy Care, a full-service pharmacy, has opened a new location on the Village Green in Canfield. Pharmacist Dan Wearsch and his staff are located at 11 East Main Street in Canfield in the former Nationwide building.

Pharmacy Care’s services include a complete specialty compounding lab, service and convenient parking.

The facility is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Regional Chamber luncheon set

Cleveland Browns head coach Pat Schurmur will headline a Regional Chamber executive luncheon titled “Football Friday with the Cleveland Browns” on May 18 at the Maronite Center, 1555 S. Meridian Road. Registration, networking and lunch begin at 11:15 a.m., with the program starting at noon.

Schurmur will talk about plans for the 2012-2013 season and be available to field questions about the team, including his take on how the Browns did in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Current and alumni players will be on hand at the luncheon as well as the voice of the Browns, Jim Donovan.

This event is open to Chamber members and nonmembers. Cost is $25 and includes the program, lunch and a Browns souvenir as well as give-a-ways throughout the program.

Murder Mystery dinner needs suspects

The St. Elizabeth Boardman Wound Care Center has moved to 7010 South Ave., Suite 6 in Boardman. The new office, at the corner of South Avenue and Trailwood Drive, opened this morning and is convenient toRoute 224 and Interstate 680, providing easier access for patients than its former DeBartolo Place office.

St. Elizabeth Wound Care Center specializes in providing comprehensive care for chronic, non-healing wounds using the latest treatments and technologies. Italian Fest to be in August

The Greater Youngstown Italian Fest will be held on Aug. 3-5 in downtown Youngstown. The festival is now accepting applications for the Italian Man and Woman of the Year. Car Trunk and Treasure Sale set

The Ursuline Center Car Trunk and Treasure Sale will be July 14 at 9 a.m. in the parking lot of the Ursuline Center on Shields Road in Canfield. Spaces are now available for cars. The cost for a side-by-side space is $25, but the fee will increase to $30 after June 30. All spaces are first-come, first-served.

The sale will also include food and refreshments on sale as well as a book, bake and furniture sale that be will held inside the center. The sale of pets, firearms and fireworks will not be permitted.

Participate in Ohio Plant Lover’s Tour

The MetroParks is traveling to Ohio Prairie Nursery on May 30 to see native plants best suited for Ohio. The bus will continue on to the American Herb Society and Holden Arboretum for lunch and a tour. The David G.
