Baseball team loses first league game
The Boardman varsity baseball team dropped its first Federal League game of the season, losing 12-3 to Massillon Jackson on May 3.
Senior Dan Watkins suffered the loss as his pitching record drops to 3-1 on the year. Boardman was led by Anthony Pacella, who was 3-for-3 with a double and a two runs scored. Nate Knaus was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Penn State coaches caravan here May 15
Three Penn State head coaches will appear in the area to speak, as coordinated by the Nittany Lion Club and the Penn State Alumni Association.
Penn State football coach Bill O’Brien, women’s basketball coach Coquese Washington and men’s hockey coach Guy Gadowsky will appear on May 15 for a luncheon at the Boardman Holiday Inn.

Boardman pitcher increases record to 6-0
Troy Parks pitched his fourth complete game of the season as the Boardman baseball squad beat state-ranked Jackson 6-3 on May 1. Parks struck out six to improve his record to a perfect 6-0.
Dan Popio was 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs and Nate Knaus was 2-for-3 with a triple.
Gridiron sponsors hosts spaghetti fundraiser
The Boardman Gridiron Club will host a spaghetti dinner fundraiser May 19 from noon to 6 p.m. to benefit the Boardman High School football team.
The dinner will be served at the Boardman United Methodist Church, 6809 Market St. and includes salad, pasta, bread and dessert.
The cost for the dinner will be $7 for adults, $5 for children 2-10 and kids under 2 eat free.

Shurmur to address Regional Chamber
Cleveland Browns coach Pat Shurmur will headline a Regional Chamber executive luncheon on May 18 at the Maronite Center.
The event is titled “Football Friday with the Cleveland Browns.”
Shurmur will talk about plans for the 2012-2013 season and be available to field questions about the team, including his take on how the Browns did in the 2012 NFL Draft.
Current and alumni players will be on hand at the luncheon as well as the voice of the Browns, Jim Donovan.

‘Boom Boom’ Mancini biography planned
A biography on Youngstown’s Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini called “The Good Son” is scheduled to be released in September. The book is written by Mark Kriegel, who also wrote bestselling biographies on “Pistol” Pete Maravich and Joe Namath. Mancini, who grew up on the South Side, was the WBA lightweight champion from 1982-84.
