Police seek women who stole 40 bras

Staff report

BOARDMAN

Police are looking for two women believed to have caused a distraction and stolen about 40 bras valued at more than $2,000 from Victoria’s Secret in the Southern Park Mall.

Two women entered the store together about 5 p.m. Tuesday, and one walked to the section with the bras, and the other remained near the underwear display, store employees told police.

The woman near the underwear started speaking to a nearby store employee and then accused the employee of following her around the store and profiling her as a thief because of her race, according to reports.

The woman, who is black, demanded to see a manager and then spoke to the manager and employee at length before leaving without making a purchase, police said.

After the exchange, the employee and manager continued working and noticed several bras missing on the display for the Victoria’s Secret “Very Sexy” bras, reports state. When they looked in the drawers, they realized about 40 bras had been taken, police said.

No one saw the other woman, who employees said seemed to have “disappeared,” take the bras, police said.

The theft is classified as a felony because of the value of the stolen merchandise.
