Playhouse to host original-play festival

YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown Playhouse will host an original one-act-play festival in July that will give local playwrights the chance to bring their work to the stage for the first time.

A first-of-its-kind event for Youngstown, the festival is being organized by Bernie Appugliese and the Playhouse.

Submissions will be evaluated by a board consisting of Appugliese, Carla Gipson and Matthew Mazuroski. Three plays will be selected, which will be the subject of workshops in July. Staged readings will take place July 28 and 29.

Auditions will be June 11 and 12 at the Playhouse. The workshops will begin July 9.

Plays must be submitted by May 31. Go to theyoungstownplayhouse.com or mvtheaterbuzz.com for application forms. A $10 submission fee is required.
