Garden club celebrates 50 years
Current and former members of the Johnny Appleseed Garden Club recently celebrated the organization’s 50th anniversary at the Tippecanoe Country Club in Canfield.
The club was formed in 1962, when Nancy Caylor, now of Tampa, Fla., named it.
Nancy Ort, the club’s first president, attended the event as a guest.
Anniversary celebration committee members were Harriet Deeds, Sally Reedy and Barb McGarry.
Current officers are Sonia Tsvetkoff, president; Reedy, program coordinator; Jeanne Filmer, secretary; and McGarry, treasurer.
Committees are: Donna Bowman, historian; Reedy, door prize and 50-50; Marge Dudley and Thea Brown, telephone; McGarry, ways and means; Joan Gallitto and Val Zurawick, social service; and Peggy Potts, horticulture.
Members also include Ginny Gaskeen, Leah Glaeser, Karen Hahn, Pat Kubiac, Donna Osipchak, Kathi Rayburn, Pat Tarajack, Dee Zurawick and Jane Evans and Deeds, both charter members.
Alumni members are Paula Baldwin, Robin Eisenbrei, Carol Micco, Corky Orton and Linda Pennell.
Members and guests each received gifts of coasters designed with apples and an apple ornament.
The club, a member of the Youngstown Garden Forum, meets the third Thursday of each month except for January, July and August.
The May meeting will be at the home of Jane Evans and will include a salad buffet.
