NILES
The Niles SCOPE Senior Center, 14 E. State St., is offering free glucose, cholesterol and blood-pressure screenings from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on the third Friday of each month starting May 19. A 12-hour fast is recommended but not mandatory. The screenings are open to the public age 50 and up. There is no need to sign up. For information, call 330-544-3676.
Walk for Hope
GREENFORD
The third annual Walk for Hope to raise funds for The Big Reach Center of Hope, a ministry of the Greenford Christian Church, is 9:30 a.m. to noon June 2 at the Boardman High School Sports Complex, 7777 Glenwood Ave., Boardman.
The event is sponsored by 33 WYTV, The DeBartolo Corp., Compco Industries, Tiger Pack Inc. and Damascus Water Conditioning. Sponsorships are available and can be viewed on the Center of Hope’s website. Registration is $15, and each pre-registration includes a complimentary T-shirt, breakfast from Panera Bread, lunch from Chick-fil-A of Southern Park Mall and a pedometer.

Walk for foster care
YOUNGSTOWN
To raise awareness of May as National Foster Care Month, the Foster Parent Association of Mahoning County is having a 2-kilometer Walk, Stroll and Roll for Foster Care in downtown Youngstown on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The family-oriented walk along West Commerce Street, Wick Avenue, Federal Plaza West and North Chestnut Street begins and ends at the parking lot of Mahoning County Children Services, 222 W. Federal St. The registration fee is $10 for adults, $5 for children and $30 for families.
Immunization clinic
GIRARD
A well-child immunization clinic will be Wednesday beginning at 11 a.m. at the Girard Health Department, 100 W. Main St. There is a $10 per-child fee. Parents are reminded to bring a copy of their child’s immunization record, and that a parent or guardian must accompany children 18 and under. Preregistration is required. CPR classes offered
BOARDMAN
The American Red Cross of Northern Ohio is offering its Safety Saturday training package, consisting of Adult CPR/AED and 1st Aid, on May 19 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Red Cross Training Center, 8381 Market St., Boardman.
Participants learn how to use the Automated External Defibrillator (AED) and Standard 1st Aid, which includes skills such as how to save someone from choking, rescue until emergency medical services arrive, patient assessment and early recognition of illness and injury.

The UPMC Horizon Minimally Invasive Bariatric and General Surgery Center has been recertified as a Center of Excellence within Health America/Health Assurance’s network of hospital providers in Pennsylvania and Ohio through the end of 2012. The hospital has held this certification since 2004.
