Youngstown
Ronnye Beamon of Calumet City, Ill., has officially joined the Youngstown State men’s basketball program.
Beamon was a four-year letterman at Bishop Knoll High School and led his high school squad to a four-year mark of 73-19. He led Bishop Knoll to a 26-1 record and a state runner-up finish as a junior and a 20-4 mark as a senior.
“What a great young man and player Ronnye is,” Youngstown State coach Jerry Slocum said. “He is a big guard that is athletic, can shoot the ball and defend.
“We are very fortunate and happy for him to be a part of our program.”
Beamon felt Youngstown State was a great fit for him and playing in the Horizon League was important.
“I feel Youngstown State is a great place for me to continue my basketball career,” Beamon said. “Plus, being in the Horizon League was a big factor because of all of the games near my home — the Chicagoland area.”
Beamon was a Northwest Times All-Area first team player last season, averaging 14.4 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2.1 steals and 1.6 assist per game.
He finished with more than 900 career points and 400 rebounds, earning a 3.41 grade-point average in honors courses.
Beamon joins Kamren Belin (Atlanta), (Bobby Hain (Jupiter, Fla.) and Ryan Weber (Indianapolis) in the 13 recruiting class.
