Jennifer Hudson family murder trial in homestretch
CHICAGO (AP) — The trial of the man accused of killing Jennifer Hudson’s mother, brother and 7-year-old nephew is winding down.
Prosecutors could rest today after presenting two weeks of evidence against the Oscar-winner’s former brother-in-law, William Balfour. His attorneys are expected to put on a brief defense.
The judge has said closing arguments could happen Wednesday. Jurors would then begin deliberations.
There are no surviving witnesses to the slayings, so prosecutors have tried to lay out a compelling circumstantial case against Hudson’s sister’s ex-husband. His attorneys could call witnesses to try to poke holes in it.
Jennifer Hudson has sat through the trial on fourth-row bench. She testified on the first day about the last time she saw her family alive. She also spoke about how much she always disliked Balfour.
