Do you want to now what important news is coming out of Weathersfield Township right after township employees learn about it?
The township now has a cellphone texting or email service available for just that purpose.
The township has signed up with a California-based company called Nixle, which provides free cellphone texting or emails for public-safety agencies across the country.
Township residents can sign up for the service by going to the township website at www.weathersfieldtwp.com and follow the step-by-step instructions, or stop at the office and pick up a copy of the instructions.
Administrator David Pugh and Cindy Smith, administrative assistant, have set up the messaging connection.
Once township officials know about school closings, bad road conditions, traffic accidents that are affecting travel at the site or traffic hazards, a resident can have that information sent to them on their device of choice.
Other information such as when a trustees’ meeting is coming up or what day road crews will chip tree limbs also will be available by text or email.
“We want to create as big a following as we can.” Pugh said.
He noted that residents will be directed to the township website for any announcements that are lengthy.
