Jury selection to start Tuesday for 20-year-old charged with murder
YOUNGSTOWN — Jury selection is expected to get under way today in the case against a 20-year-old city man accused of killing a 17-year-old girl and wounding her 18-year-old friend in 2010.
Melvin S. Shaw II, of Idlewood Avenue, is charged with the aggravated murder of Tracee Banks, 17, and attempted murder of Jamel Turner, 18, of Youngstown. The shooting occurred June 19, 2010, at a Manchester Avenue home on the city’s West Side.
Shaw also was indicted on two counts of felonious assault and one count of shooting into a home. Each count has a weapons specifications. If convicted, he could face life in prison without parole.
Shaw has been housed in the Mahoning County jail on a $1.25 million bond.
