ATHENS, Greece

Official projections in Greece’s election show the conservative New Democracy party winning the most votes, with 19.18 percent, far short of the amount needed to form a government.

The projections by Singular Logic data processing company on behalf of the Interior Ministry on Sunday showed New Democracy would hold 109 seats in the 300-member parliament. The leftist Syriza party is projected to get second place with 16.3 percent and 50 seats, and the formerly majority socialist PASOK lagging behind with 13.6 and 42 seats.

The margin of error was 0.5 percentage point.
