YAFWC will honor local television anchor

The Youngstown Area Federation of Women’s Clubs will honor Stan Boney on May 16 at the organization’s annual awards luncheon at the Youngstown Country Club.He will be presented with the Community Media Award for his work in television and his commitment to the Mahoning Valley.
Boney began his career at WYTV in 1979 as the weekend sports anchor. He moved to the position of weather anchor in 1981, which he held for 30 years. In 2008 he began anchoring the station news, and in August 2011 he became the main anchor of 33 News at 5:30, 6 and 11 p.m.
He has hosted WYTV’s “Academic Challenge” since 2003 and has served as the local host of the Jerry Lewis Labor Day Telethon to benefit muscular dystrophy.
Boney was born in Findlay, Ohio, and received a degree in broadcast journalism from Ohio University.
He is well-known for his storytelling and his regular feature stories on people, places and historical events around Youngstown. He can often be seen at community events, donating his time to raise money for various charities.
He lives in Boardman with his wife, Debbie, and daughter, Mollie.
