Vindicator wins many awards in annual Associated Press competition

COLUMBUS
Staff members of The Vindicator were honored Sunday for outstanding journalism in the Associated Press Society of Ohio’s annual competition.
The newspaper also won honors for overall general excellence in 2011.
The Vindicator won 18 awards, including several first-place victories.
The Vindicator was judged in Division IV, for daily newspapers with daily circulations of between 25,000 and 74,999.
The winners include:
General Excellence: The (Youngstown) Vindicator, third place.
Best Online Photojournalist: First, William D. Lewis, The (Youngstown) Vindicator; 3, Robert K. Yosay, The (Youngstown) Vindicator.
Best Columnist: 2, Todd Franko, editor, The (Youngstown) Vindicator;
Best Editorial Writer: 2, Dennis Mangan, The (Youngstown) Vindicator;
Best Feature Writer: 3, Ed Runyan, The (Youngstown) Vindicator.
Best Graphics Artist: 2, Robert McFerren, The (Youngstown) Vindicator; 3, John Cruz, The (Youngstown) Vindicator.
Best Sports Feature Writer: 2, Joe Scalzo, The (Youngstown) Vindicator;
