‘Ticked Off’ author plans library visit

Janet DeCesare of Mineral Ridge, author of “Ticked Off,” will be at the Hubbard Public Library at 6:30 p.m. May 16 to show a clip from “Under Our Skin,” a documentary, and to share her experience with Lyme disease.

The author warns of a bad outbreak of ticks this summer because of the early warm weather we had.

‘Osaka Heat’ wins 2 eLit Awards

Independent Publisher announced its annual eLit Awards, and Mary Claire Mahaney’s novel “Osaka Heat” won the Gold Medal in the romance category and the Silver Medal in the Multicultural Fiction category.

The novel follows the story of an American widow who goes to Japan and engages in a forbidden romance with a Japanese man.

The multicultural aspects of the book are presented in the literature, music and Japanese cuisine woven throughout, along with the personal, religious and cultural challenges faced by the protagonist during her travels in Japan.

Mahaney, a retired lawyer, lives in Fairfax County, Va.

hAlliance-area author releases new novel

“With Sacred Honor,” a historical novel by Alliance-area author William T. Johnson, has become available.

The print version is available from online retailers such as Amazon and Barnes & Noble. It’s also offered for Kindle in installments or as a complete book.

In the novel, Solomon is a Stockbridge Indian coming of age in an English mission town in mid-18th century Massachusetts.

Johnson’s take brings to life the harsh realities of the French and Indian War, when Solomon gets thrust into the part of scout for Hobbs’ Company of Rangers.

The story follows Solomon and his company as they trek through the wilderness of North America, battling the French and their Indian allies.
