7th North Coast ride to promote safety
PARKMAN
The Seventh Annual North Coast Motorcycle Safety Ride will be May 19 and include Ashtabula, Geauga, Lake, Mahoning, and Trumbull counties.
The ride, started in 2005, was designed to promote motorcycle safety and awareness. It is a partnership among the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Motorcycle Ohio, Safe Communities and University Hospitals. Proceeds benefit Safe Communities in all five counties.
The ride will feature two starting points, one at the Ashtabula County Fairgrounds in Jefferson and the other at Bike Town Harley Davidson in Austintown. Both groups will meet at Parkman Community Center in Geauga County.
Riders will return to the Cortland Moose and Family Center in Mecca Township for festivities, safety displays and food. The ride will be escorted by state troopers and local law-enforcement officers.
Riders can register the day of the ride at each starting point from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. The ride begins at 11 a.m.
Trumbull court plans safety summit for seniors
CHAMPION
Trumbull County Probate Court will have a Senior Safety Summit from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. June 15 in the Kent State University at Trumbull administration building.
Featured speaker will be nutritionist and certified diabetes educator Armon Shayesteh, who will talk about senior nutrition. Law-enforcement officers will talk about senior safety. The event is free and coincides with National Elder Abuse Awareness Day. For more information, call 330-675-2521.
Painting contest
CORTLAND
The Trumbull Soil & Water Conservation District will have its fourth annual Rain Barrel Painting Contest called “The Wonderful World of Wetlands.”
Local artists and/or groups are asked to paint a barrel to help educate the community about the benefits of water conservation.
Painted barrels are voted on by visitors to the Trumbull County Fair and judged by representatives from Trumbull Art Gallery. The barrels are then auctioned.
Anyone interested should visit at 520 W. Main St. or call 330-637-2056, Ext. 101 to reserve a barrel. Finished barrels must be returned to the SWCD’s fair location June 28.
Free bike rodeo
WARREN
St. Paul Lutheran Church, 2860 E. Market St., will have a free bike rodeo from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. May 19 for children age 4 to 9. Registration must be completed by Tuesday by calling 330-394-5741.
The rodeo teaches bicycle safety and road rules. It also includes food and prizes. Co-sponsor is the nonprofit organization Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership.
