Springtime at Garden planned in Cortland

CORTLAND

The 7th Annual Springtime at the Garden will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at Trumbull County Agricultural and Family Education Center, 520 W. Main St.

Plants for sale will include perennials, herbs, vegetables, shrubs and annuals. Also see the Master Gardener Plant of the Year 2012.

Eleven vendors will present garden art, jewelry, craft items and succulents. Lunch will be offered by 4-H. Master Gardeners will give a free talk at noon.

Wheatland firefighters begin water service

WHEATLAND

Wheatland Volunteer Fire Department is kicking off its annual water hauling/swimming pool filling fundraiser. The delivery area encompasses large portions of Mercer and Lawrence counties in Pennsylvania as well as large parts of Trumbull and Mahoning counties.

Rail group to mark Train Day with rides

ORRVILLE, OHIO

The Orrville Railroad Heritage Society is planning to celebrate National Train Day on Saturday. The society will conduct train and track car rides from noon to 4 p.m. on the railroad line at 245 McGill St.

Tickets are available at trackside only. Prices are $2 for adults and $1 for children 12 and under.

Participants also can tour the Orrville Union Depot Musem at 145 Depot St., off West Market Street, for a look at railroad displays, model trains and a gift shop.

Shopping fundraiser to aid Beatitude House

A shopping event fundraiser is planned for 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at St. Charles Church to benefit Beatitude House of Youngstown.

The event will feature products and services from several area direct and independent sales businesses. All proceeds benefit Beatitude House. Vendors will sell a variety of Mother’s Day items and will be donating raffle baskets.

Pack 114 Cub Scouts are offering service point credits when the Scouts make a Pass It On Bag, a decorated brown paper grocery bag filled with gently used clothes, toys, bedding or unused personal hygiene items and take it to the fundraiser between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Shoppers who wish to make a Pass It On Bag will receive one free raffle ticket for a chance to win one of more than 30 gift baskets valued at $50 or higher.

Third annual 5-K run, 2-mile walk planned

Villa Maria, PA.

Villa Maria Education and Spirituality Center is organizing its third 5-K run and 2-mile trail walk June 2 on the grounds of Villa Maria Community Center, 225 Villa Maria Road. Registration that day will start at 7:30 a.m. and the run will begin at 9.

The cost to register for the run by May 16 is $15, and $10 for the walk. After May 16, the costs will be $20 for the run and $15 for the walk. The fee includes food, beverages and a T-shirt for all prepaid participants.

Prizes will be awarded to runners/walkers in all age groups and overall.

There will be a 50-50 raffle and a drum circle. Garden plants, herbs, hanging baskets and fair trade products from The Villa Shoppe will be for sale.

Proceeds will support the charitable work of the center, including offering summer camps to children from low-income families and service programs that partner with Habitat for Humanity, Rescue Mission and St. Vincent de Paul soup kitchen.

Spring fashion show will support mission

YOUNGSTOWN

Living Testimony Ministries, 34 Jacobs Road, is having a Spring Fashion Show fundraiser from 1 to 5 p.m. May 19.

Proceeds will help pay for a mission trip to the Dominican Republic. The donation is $10. Refreshments will be served.
