Columbiana’s Dunlap, YCS’s Grier capture Clipper Invite awards

COLUMBIANA
Youngstown Christian’s Ryan Grier won the 100- and 200-meter dashes and helped the Eagles place fourth in the 4x200 relay to finish as the high scorer among boys at Saturday’s 10th annual Clipper Invitational at the Ward Athletic Complex.
Burton Berkshire’s David Mayer won the shot and placed second in the discus to earn the “Boots” Hawkins high point field award and help the Badgers finish second behind East Liverpool for the team title, 87-73.
Area individual winners were Canfield’s Nick Annichenni (300 hurdles), Heartland Christian’s Gregor Ibbeken (800), South Range’s Dan Good (discus), East Palestine’s Zach Brockman (high jump) and Columbiana’s Noah McBride (long jump).
Canfield’s JVs won the 4x800, while Columbiana won the 4x200 relay.
On the girls, side, Columbiana’s Addie Dunlap won the shot put and discus to earn the “Boots” Hawkins award and help the Clippers cruise to the team title.
Columbiana scored 114 points, while Canfield’s junior varsity was second with 64 points.
Malvern’s Dolly Rinehart was the girls’ high scorer, winning the long jump and 200-meter dash while finishing second in the 100 and 400.
Brookfield’s Tori Thompson (100 hurdles, 300 hurdles), Columbiana’s Sara Saverko (1600 and 3200), Youngstown Christian’s Destiny Snyder (400) and East Palestine’s Ashley Morris (high jump) also won individual events.
Canfield’s JVs won the 4x800 relay, while Columbiana won the 4x100 and 4x200 and Youngstown Christian captured the 4x400.
