YOUNGSTOWN

The Youngstown Neighborhood Development Corp. is ready to kick off another season of planting community gardens. Kickoff meeting times for information and obtaining plots in different neighborhoods are as follows:

Parkview Community Garden – Monday, 6 p.m.

Mineral Springs Community Garden — Tuesday, 6 p.m.

Sherwood Community Garden – Wednesday, 6 p.m.

Brentwood Community Garden – Friday, 11 a.m.

Everyone is welcome to attend the meetings. Plants, seeds and new garden beds will be available after the meeting. Call YNDC at 330-480-0423 for more information. Judge sentences two on drug convictions

CLEVELAND

One defendant in a case involving drug sales on Youngstown’s East Side and in Campbell has been sentenced to two years in federal prison, followed by five years’ probation.

Another was spared prison but was placed on three years’ probation. On Thursday, U.S. District Court Judge Dan Aaron Polster sentenced Carlos Alberto Flores, 37, to prison, and Jose Emmanuel Cuevas, 20, to three years’ probation. Both Youngstowners had earlier pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute heroin and cocaine. They were among 25 Youngstown-area residents indicted in the case.
