The FC Canfield Simon Roofing-Fairway Ford girls U-13 soccer team recently won the Nike Cup championship in Columbus. The team defeated Foothills Revolution (Pa.) 8-0, Cincinnati Soccer Alliance 6-1, Fury Fighters (Md.) 2-0 and BSA Celtics from Beavercreek 5-0 in the championship.

“Fine play from our defense and controlling the midfield led to many opportunities to score,” said coach Vinny Copploe. “The girls really do have big mouths. This helps in communication on the field.”

A majority of the team members attend Canfield Middle School. The squad also won the Kent State Open in March. Coming up, the girls will travel to Hudson to play, followed by two weeks of league play in the Youngstown Area Youth Soccer League (YAYSL).

Local players interested in playing for U-9 to U-14 age groups in boys and girls can sign up in May at www.Canfieldsoccerclub.org.
