The students at Lynn Kirk Elementary witnessed a real balancing act on April 4, as the members of the Dazzling Mills family showed off impressive feats of juggling, acrobatics and unicycling during their visit to the school.

The family act consists of patriarch Steve Mills, who performs circus-worthy tricks with his daughter, Michelle, and son-in-law, Kris Groth. The Groth’s 1-year-old daughter, Chloe, also travels along, and can be seen clapping and smiling from her crib as the trio wows crowds.

The Mills mixed their tricks with humor and life advice for the students.

“Do you think juggling took a long time to learn? Well, yes, it did, but I learned by setting a goal and working hard to achieve it. Think of the positive — if you think you can do it, you’re probably right,” said Steve Mills.

The group impressed the students when they juggled 12 pins between them and performed synchronized dances on their unicycles. Not all of the tricks were perfect, but Steve Mills used that fact as a teaching moment.

“We missed some pins every now and then, but we picked them right back up again. In your life, some things won’t work and that’s normal, but you always have to keep trying,” he explained.

The group also welcomed plenty of audience participation. Mills taught Ethan Spires the basics of juggling and showed a group of five Lynn Kirk students how to balance a paper cone in their hands.

Steve Mills said his family enjoyed their stop at Lynn Kirk.

“It was great to come to the school and have kids and teachers laughing, while also being able to teach them some really cool stuff,” Mills said.
