Moms made a sweet memory with their Lloyd students on April 26.

The Lloyd PTA hosted a special “Mom’s Night Out” where moms, grandmas or any special female friend accompanied their student to the school to make a “cookies in a jar” craft.

With a recipe on hand, the families added flour, salt, baking soda, brown sugar and white sugar to a mason jar, and had a choice to include chocolate chips or M&M pieces to the recipe as well.

After all the ingredients were in place, moms and daughters decorated the jars with a fabric swatch and ribbon.

PTA treasurer Jo Lynn Protopapa planned the event and said more than just fun was on her mind.

“Of course, Mom’s Night Out is about spending quality time together and letting the students show their moms part of their environment.

However, the kids are also learning math skills by measuring the ingredients. It’s also fun that doesn’t end here — the kids get to go home and bake with their kids as well,” Protopapa pointed out.

The Lloyd PTA provided a dinner of chicken, pasta and treats. Art by Lloyd students was displayed in the halls, so kids could point out their masterpieces on the way to pick up some grub.

“The kids love to show mom their art and tell them about their daily life in the classroom when they visit,” Protopapa added.

The cookie craft had flour flying and provided plenty of laughs for the families.

Mother Amy Connolly said it was a fun idea to enjoy with her daughter, Leah.

“We bake together often, but it’s always the easy stuff that you cut and bake. This is going to be different for us, but a lot of fun,” she said about the craft.
