JV softball squad wins Akron tourney

Poland Seminary High School’s junior varsity softball team started the season 11-0, including wins against Mentor, Aurora and Niles en route to a Flight Championship at the Akron Racer’s JV Jamboree at Firestone Stadium on April 7.

The Lady Bulldogs have been led by pitchers Kasie Serich (6-0), Ally Deemer (2-0) and Aleah Hughes (2-0). Offensively, the team has battered opponents with a balanced attack, sporting six players with a batting average over .400.

The team, featuring two juniors, three sophomores and eight freshmen, have outscored opponents 113-11 this season, despite playing several Division I opponents, The schedule includes Austintown Fitch, Mentor, Brunswick and perennial Pennsylvania AAAA powerhouse Shaler Area.

The Lady Bulldogs are also undefeated in AAC play, defeating Canfield on April 16-17.
