Fed official proposes new rule on fracking reporting on Indian land

WASHINGTON — The Secretary of the Interior’s Office proposed a rule today that would require companies to publicly disclose the chemicals being used in fracking operations.

The rule would only apply to operations taking place on federal or Indian land. The rule does place some protection for the company for proprietary information. The rule is designed to be in line with actions that have already been taken by some states.

The proposed rule would not have an impact locally. Ohio at this time does not have a rule requiring companies to disclose what chemicals are being used in the fracking process.
