Canfield inducts new class into National Honor Society

Canfield High School hosted its annual National Honor Society induction ceremony April 26, during which 51 students, including 49 juniors and two seniors, were honored by the society.
The student inductees were escorted by their parents into the auditorium and each student was introduced individually to an auditorium filled with fellow students, friends and family. As the students were introduced, Canfield High School National Honor Society co-advisers Tim Wensel and Steve Pitts presented them with the National Honor Society gold medal, which was placed around their neck. Students then crossed the stage and signed the membership book.
Students inducted into the society included: Connor Abraham, Hayley Allen, Michael Barkett, Kayla Barko, Amanda Benson, Alex Bogar, Ben Bogen, Dalton Bosze, Catherine Brown, Molly Brown, Michael Cardone, Emily Conroy, Alexander DeChurch, Marisa DeSanto, Michael Dohar, Devon Doran, Ariana Ellis, Amanda Freedman, Emily Gianetti, Rebekah Green, Ashley Haley, Alanna Holcomb, Andrew Jarvis, Rachel Jenkins, Maria Kenner, Jennifer Love, Sabrina Mangapora, Sara Martinko, Jennifer Morris, Katharine Morrison, Mary Kate Motolenich, Bhamini Patel, Allison Pavlansky, Kelly Richards, Olivia Roy, Lydia Scheel, Alexa Schmidt, Michele Sorice, Emily Stedge, Alex Tareshawty, Alyssa Titi, Elizabeth Urig, Karen Vankovich, Leah Vitek, Jonathon Wagner, Hayley Ward, Jamie Watt, Jenna Weems, Dylan Williams, Makenzie Wronkovich and Rachel Wyand.
Current senior members of the society spoke on the four Pillars of the National Honor Society. Kaylee Kapalko spoke on Character, C.J. Blaney spoke on Leadership, Gabby Brant spoke on Service and Aly Saleh spoke on Scholarship.
“Character is choosing to do the right thing,” Kapalko told the inductees during her speech, after which she lit the candle for character.
“As a leader, you become an influence for others,” Blaney said as he addressed the inductees.
When speaking on the pillar of service, Brant told the students, “People who are truly happy are the ones who have learned to help others.”
“Scholarship is the willingness to put extra time into your studies,” said Saleh.
Dr. Cynthia E. Anderson, president of Youngstown State University, served as guest speaker for the ceremony.
“Be ready when life throws you a curve. It will. But you have already faced many curves and have done a great job. You must absolutely find your passion in life. Whatever you choose will be lots of hard work, so you better love it. People will know if you love your work or if you are just working,” Anderson said.
Wensel then presented Jenna Burkert with the Leadership and Service Award.
“As a member of the National Honor Society, you possess pride and honor. With honor comes great responsibility. Challenge yourself. Find a need and fill it,” Wensel told the new inductees.
After the ceremony, inductees, parents, guests and staff enjoyed a reception in the cafeteria which included cookies, fresh fruit, cupcakes, punch and coffee.
