The Canfield library will host a blood pressure check hosted by the Salem Area Visiting Nurse Association on May 22 from 1 to 3 p.m.

The Canfield library will host a coupon swap on May 12 at 10 a.m. Join us at the Canfield library to stretch your shopping dollars by swapping coupons or learning new tips from other coupon-clippers.

Guess who’s who

The Canfield library invites teens in grades 7-12 to get to know the people that work at your library. If you can match up the correct high school photo to each library worker, you could win a prize.

Tales to Tails set

The Canfield library will host Tales to Tails on May 14 at 6:30 p.m. Sign up to read to a registered therapy dog, which helps develop reading skills, promotes confidence and encourages a love of reading. Readers of all levels and abilities are welcome. Bring a book of your choice. Dogs are provided by K-9 for Compassion, registered Delta society therapy dogs. Guess and go

The Canfield library will host Guess and Go- Do You Know? during library hours through the month of May. Children of all ages are invited to the guess the number of items in the jar. Closest guess wins.

The Canfield library will host Baby Brilliant: Fun Time for 4s and 5s on May 8, 15, 22 and 29 at 1:30 p.m. The program will include developmentally-appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finger plays and other activities that will help children, ages 4-5, become successful readers. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Lego my library

The Canfield library invites children ages 6 and older to create Lego designs on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. Legos will be provided.

Tales and Talk set

The Canfield library will host Baby Brilliant: Tales and Talk for 2s and 3s on May 9, 23 and 30 at 10 a.m. The program will include developmentally-appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finger plays and other activities that will help children, ages 2-3, become successful readers. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Rhythm and Motion for 2s and 3s

The Canfield library will host Baby Brilliant: Rhythm and Motion for 2s and 3s on May 16 at 10 a.m. The program will include a variety of music, dance, song and special activities, guaranteed to appeal to the young and restless. Activities will include the use of props, musical instruments and imagination. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Bonding with babies, books

The Canfield library will host Baby Brilliant: Bonding with Babies and Books for babies 6-23 months on May 14 at 10 a.m.

The program will include developmentally-appropriate books, songs, rhymes, finger plays and other activities that will help children become successful readers. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Canfield Historical Society hosts legal lecture

The Canfield Historical Society concludes its Spring Lecture Series with the lecture “Great Legal Cases in American History” at the Canfield Historical Society’s Bond House May 10 at 7 p.m. Judge Scott Hunter will highlight some of the cases that shaped, and in many cases reshaped, the political landscape of our nation. Hunter is a lifelong resident of Mahoning County and a graduate of Canfield High School, Youngstown State University and the Cincinnati College of Law.

The Bond House is located at 44 W. Main St., Canfield, across from the Canfield library. The lecture is free and open to anyone who would like to attend, with no registration necessary. This lecture is appropriate for all ages. For more information, call the historical society at 330-533-3458.

ABWA meeting set Tuesday

The Mill Creek Chapter of American Business Women’s Association will hold a meeting on Tuesday at The Stonebridge Grill and Tavern on Route 224 in Boardman. Networking will be from 6-6:30 p.m. and dinner will follow. The cost is $16.50 and will include chicken, potato, vegetables and brown dessert. On the agenda for the meeting is voting for new officers for the 2012-2013 year and reports on the Chinese auction fundraiser.

Libraries closing notice

All libraries in the Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County system will be closed May 13, 27 and 28.

Clothing pantry set for today

A Clothing Pantry will take place today from 10 a.m. to noon at West Side Community Center. The pantry will include free clothing for men, women and children. West Side Community Center is located at 304 Matta Ave.

Dairy Queen hosts kids cake decorating

The Cornersburg and Austintown Dairy Queens will host Kids Cake Decorating for Mom on Saturday. The Cornersburg location, 3555 S. Meridian Road, will host the event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and the Austintown location, 146 N. Canfield-Niles Road, will be hosting it from 1 to 4 p.m. A qualified DQ cake decorator will be on hand to assist. Kids can create their own design, add sprinkles, gel, icing and candy or place an edible image of their choice on the cake. This is an open house event. It only takes about 15 minutes to decorate a cake. Call to reserve a spot so the appropriate amount of decorators are available to assist children. Children must be supervised by an adult.

Pharmacy opens Canfield location on Village Green

Pharmacy Care, a full-service pharmacy, has opened a new location on the Village Green in Canfield. Pharmacist Dan Wearsch and his staff are located at 11 East Main Street in Canfield in the former Nationwide building.

Pharmacy Care’s services include a complete specialty compounding lab, service and convenient parking.

The facility is open Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Regional Chamber luncheon set

Cleveland Browns head coach Pat Schurmur will headline a Regional Chamber executive luncheon titled “Football Friday with the Cleveland Browns” on May 18 at the Maronite Center, 1555 S. Meridian Road. Registration, networking and lunch begin at 11:15 a.m., with the program starting at noon.

Schurmur will talk about plans for the 2012-2013 season and be available to field questions about the team, including his take on how the Browns did in the 2012 NFL Draft.

Current and alumni players will be on hand at the luncheon as well as the voice of the Browns, Jim Donovan.

This event is open to Chamber members and nonmembers. Cost is $25 and includes the program, lunch and a Browns souvenir as well as give-a-ways throughout the program.

Baby bargain boutique set

Boardman Park will be hosting its annual Baby Bargain Boutique on May 19 from 9 a.m. to noon at Masters Pavilion. Admission is free. The boutique will have usable baby, children and maternity clothing, toys, books, furniture and much more for children under the age of five. CVMS drama team presents shows

The Drama Club of Canfield Village Middle School will present “OZ: I Don’t Think We’re in Canfield Anymore” today in the Canfield High School auditorium.

Murder Mystery dinner needs suspects

The Myrddin Winery in Lake Milton will host a Murder Mystery dinner May 25 at 7 p.m. and is searching for people to participate in the show.

Wound Care center relocates

The St. Elizabeth Boardman Wound Care Center has moved to 7010 South Ave., Suite 6 in Boardman. The new office, at the corner of South Avenue and Trailwood Drive, opened this morning and is convenient toRoute 224 and Interstate 680, providing easier access for patients than its former DeBartolo Place office.

St. Elizabeth Wound Care Center specializes in providing comprehensive care for chronic, non-healing wounds using the latest treatments and technologies. Summer Park Program set

The City of Canfield will hold their Summer Park Program June 11- June 29 at Greasel Park. The program will be Monday through Friday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. for children 6-12. The event will include outdoor sports, games, crafts and various speakers.

The deadline for applications is May 21. Applications must be turned in at the city building with a copy of a birth certificate. No application will be accepted after the deadline.

Eat pasta, support Tyler

A pasta dinner in support of Tyler Branca will be held on May 20 from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. at St. Charles Catholic Church, 7345 Westview Drive. The cost is $9 for adults and $6 for children 10 and under. Dinner includes pasta, meatballs, salad, roll, dessert, coffee, tea and orange drink. Pasta, sauce and meatballs are donated by Cafe Capri.

Branca is a 21-year-old college student who was recently diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. Monetary donations are also accepted at any First National Bank — just ask for the Tyler Branca Fund.

Italian Fest to be in August

The Greater Youngstown Italian Fest will be held on Aug. 3-5 in downtown Youngstown. The festival is now accepting applications for the Italian Man and Woman of the Year. Applications for scholarships are also available. Applicants must be attending Youngstown State University in order to be eligible for these scholarships. Deadline for applications is June 1. Registration opens for Women’s Heart Day

Registration for Woman’s Heart Day, a free health and wellness extravaganza provided by Humility of Mary Health Partners has begun. Provided as a service to the community, Woman’s Heart Day will take place on May 10 from 6:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Covelli Centre. This annual event features free health screenings, fitness demonstrations, educational presentations on a variety of women’s health issues, cooking demonstrations, refreshments and giveaways.

Among the health screenings offered this year are bone density, lipid panel (cholesterol) and glucose testing, arterial disease assessments, blood pressure readings, vision screenings, body fat measurements and health age assessments.

Registration is required and appointments for lipid panel testing are limited.

Car Trunk and Treasure Sale set

The Ursuline Center Car Trunk and Treasure Sale will be July 14 at 9 a.m. in the parking lot of the Ursuline Center on Shields Road in Canfield. Spaces are now available for cars. The cost for a side-by-side space is $25, but the fee will increase to $30 after June 30. All spaces are first-come, first-served.

The sale will also include food and refreshments on sale as well as a book, bake and furniture sale that be will held inside the center. The sale of pets, firearms and fireworks will not be permitted.

Participate in Ohio Plant Lover’s Tour

The MetroParks is traveling to Ohio Prairie Nursery on May 30 to see native plants best suited for Ohio. The bus will continue on to the American Herb Society and Holden Arboretum for lunch and a tour. The David G. Leach Research Station displaying spectacular rhododendrons is the last stop before a delicious dinner at the Ferrante Winery and Ristorante. Cost is $135 ($95 for FFRG members).
