Boardman runners ninth in Columbus meet
Twenty-one members of the Boardman girls track team traveled to the Thomas Worthington Invitational in Columbus and placed ninth place out of 16 teams.
“This was the toughest week of the season for the girls team competing at three meets in six days. I was extremely proud of the girls efforts all week, especially at the Hoover meet as we threw everything we could at them strategically to try to beat them and just came up a few points short,” said Boardman coach Denise Gorski.
Awards were given to the top eight in each event.
Giovanna Silvestri was the runner-up in the discus (111-8) and also placed third in the shot put (35-8 Ω). Lesley Koch was fourth in the 200 (27.2) and seventh in the 100 (13.31.) Freshman thrower Ka’Nisha White placed fourth in the shot put (32-8) and was the only freshman to place in the top eight in the entire competition.
The 4x800 meter relay team of freshmen Heaton O’Hara and Regan O’Hara, sophomore Trista Cunningham and senior Tori Moore took fifth in a time of 10:05.73. Sophomore Emma Schwendeman was sixth in the 1600 (5:40.89).
